While starting the lessons of modern dance, students will be introduced with a small bar that is same like the ballet bar; however without much turnout as well as different music. This bar work includes low knee bends, limbering and foot work. Just as ballet dancers, these dancers will have to improve their strength, technique and flexibility so as to perform well in modern dance. Then in the next session, things start livening up with jazzy movements. Students are taught of techniques to do the step ball changes, different isolation's of various body parts and also different jumps. After they have finished learning some steps, they will be joined for forming a short dance.
How to master contemporary modern dance?
In the starting, modern dance tends to be more inclined towards jazz but later on as the students keep progressing, they will eventually go more into the lyrical as well as contemporary modern styles. Contemporary is tougher and the dancer needs tremendous strength in his body and particularly in his core muscles for sustaining all the movements. This tends to be slower than the jazz. In fact, there are plenty of slow contractions and even lot of movements of swinging quality. For looking good while doing contemporary modern dance, classical ballet knowledge will help a lot. It even helps if you’re flexible.
